Clinical supervision is the foundational activity that connects theory to practice for counseling professionals. Many accrediting bodies and regulatory standards require that counselors employ evidence-based best practices with their populations served. This same premise should be applied when providing clinical supervision to our supervisees. Supervision models offer a framework from which we offer guidance and feedback. Along with case conceptualization, clinical supervision is about exploring the “self of the therapist” to include biases and blind spots that may either foster or rupture the therapeutic alliance.
