Morning Session: Telehealth 101 – Basics of Telemedicine

Implementing a telemedicine program is not as cut and dry as some may think.  There are many things that need to be considered, therefore, it requires that you have training in advance.  The Telehealth 101:  Basics of Virtual Care will provide learners with the basic knowledge needed, whether they are implementing their own program, or becoming an effective part of a telehealth team.  The presentation is designed to provide the learner with a foundation upon which they can build upon.

Trainer: Lloyd Sirmons is the Director of the Southeastern Telehealth Resource Center (SETRC) which is part of the National Consortium of Telehealth Resource Centers federally funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Office for the Advancement of Telehealth (OAT), which is part of the Office of Rural Health Policy. SETRC serves as the regional telehealth resource center charged with advancing telehealth by providing technical assistance / guidance with all aspects of telehealth implementation. SETRC’s service area includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Afternoon Session: Effective Use of Drug Screening in Treating Substance Use Disorder

Presenter: Mike Dennis

1. Learn about the 4 most common types of drug tests.

2. Identify methods people use to beat a drug screen and how you can combat that.

3. Distinguish what results actually mean for each type of drug tests.

4. Learn about drug screen levels and their meaning.

5. Determine which drug test is best for what your needs are.

Mike Dennis, is the Executive Director of the Tri-County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (TCCADA), a private non-profit behavioral health provider serving Orangeburg, Bamberg and Calhoun Counties. TCCADA provides outpatient services to children, adolescents and adults; intensive outpatient to adults; and also has the only co-ed adolescent inpatient program within the state alcohol and drug abuse system. In addition, TCCADA is the only program within the state alcohol and drug abuse system that is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Mr. Dennis joined TCCADA after completing his B.S. in Psychology from Wofford College in 1990. While working full-time as a clinician, Mr. Dennis earned his Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State University. Furthermore, Mr. Dennis is a State and Nationally Certified Addictions Counselor as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor. During his tenure at TCCADA, Mr. Dennis has held various management positions overseeing a diverse staff of clinicians, physicians, nurses, administrative and dieticians and in July of 2013 became the Executive Director. Under his guidance, TCCADA has successfully implemented several federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment grants expanding services to adults and adolescent in rural settings.

Mr. Dennis is active in his community serving on the Board of Directors of the Tri-County Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Orangeburg Project Life Positeen, an afterschool tutoring program, the Advisory Board of SC MADD and Board of Directors for The Courage Center based in Lexington, SC.
